The company’s largest global manufacturing plant is growing even bigger, bringing new jobs and strengthening Mexico's industrial ecosystem through 2029.
The LEGO Group, the Danish toy giant, announced a US$400 million investment to expand its operations in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. The investment will be allocated to 62,000 square meters of infrastructure, including a new packaging facility and a high-capacity warehouse.
President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that this investment—set to take place from 2026 to 2029 as part of the “Plan México”—aims to boost production for the domestic market, creating 1,300 new jobs, while simultaneously fostering child development.
"This investment is very important, not only because of choosing Mexico—which reflects confidence in our country—but also because the LEGO team in Mexico strongly championed this investment," President Sheinbaum stated during her daily morning press conference.
She also noted that this initiative fosters domestic production, for both the local market and export.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard highlighted that this investment will allow the rebirth of the toy industry as well as the petrochemical industry. He noted that the increase in production is linked to “an entire ecosystem that is taking a new dimension,” one of the objectives of the “Plan México.”
LEGO General Manager and Senior Vice President of Manufacturing for the Americas, Nancy Sánchez Moya, highlighted that since the company began operations in 2008 in Nuevo León, they have experienced constant growth and boast “an impressive track record of expansion and innovation." She also noted that the expansion reflects the global growth that the company is experiencing and this has led to the necessity to continue expanding their capabilities to meet the demand they have worldwide.
“This also reflects the strength we have found in Nuevo León. For nearly two decades, we have found skilled talent, robust logistics infrastructure, and a world-class manufacturing ecosystem,” noted Sánchez Moya.
Currently, the LEGO Group has its largest plant worldwide in Mexico, and with this investment the company continues to consolidate and reinforce why Mexico remains a vital hub, according to Sánchez Moya.
