Mexico Smashes Tourism Records in June, Driven by Surge in International Travelers and Revenue

Mexico set tourism activity records in June, as announced by Mexico's Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, during President Claudia Sheinbaum's press conference yesterday.

The Secretary reported record-breaking figures for June, with 8.2 million international travelers—a 2.1% increase over the same month in 2025. This figure, combined with 4.1 million international tourists, generated $2.913 billion in economic revenue, a 5.9% increase compared to the previous year.

The Secretary also highlighted figures regarding international visitors from January to June, noting a total of 51.1 million—a 7.7% increase over 2025. Meanwhile, the number of international tourists reached 24.5 million (up 4.6% from the previous year), generating $18.781 billion in economic revenue, a 0.5% increase compared to 2025.

Additionally, she reported an increase in cruise passenger arrivals, which reached 6.6 million visitors—15.2% more than in 2025—generating $575 million, an 18.7% increase over the previous year.

According to Rodríguez Zamora, these figures surpass the country's all-time high for tourism activity.

She also highlighted passenger flow data for January through June, noting that 93.9 million passengers arrived at the country's top 10 airports: Mexico City International Airport (22 million), Cancún (14.8 million), Guadalajara (9.2 million), Monterrey (7.6 million), Tijuana (5.8 million), San José del Cabo (3.8 million), AIFA (3.6 million), Puerto Vallarta (3.3 million), Mérida (2 million), and León (1.5 million). Also highlighted was the increase in tourists from Colombia (+31.5%), Brazil (+19.3%), Japan (+17.1%), Canada (+7.6%), Switzerland (+6.0%), Australia (+3.8%), and South Korea (+3.5%).

It was also noted that the Maya Train transported 56,736 foreign passengers, an increase of 35.7% compared to 2025.

Mexico to Host ITB Americas

Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, also announced that the country will host ITB Americas—the American edition of the world's largest gathering for the tourism sector—taking place from November 10 to 12 of this year in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Rodríguez Zamora noted that the event will welcome representatives from 42 countries to Expo Guadalajara and that Mexico will serve as the host country for five consecutive years. She also highlighted that the trade show will feature the participation of 5,000 investors and 1,000 vetted buyers from over 140 countries; additionally, all 32 federal entities will be present in the Mexico Pavilion, alongside more than 60 "high-value" conferences and networking sessions designed to boost business opportunities and support tour operators.
