Russian Security Service Foils Ukrainian Plot Against UK Embassy

A former British embassy guard and agent of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has been detained by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).

The detainee was gathering information on British diplomats for blogger Dmitry Karpenko, known as Apostle Dmitry, the FSB press office reported.

A criminal case for high treason under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code was opened against the former British embassy guard and SBU agent, who is a Russian citizen, and preliminary investigations are ongoing, the Russian news agency TASS reported.

According to information gathered by TASS, the man, born in 1981, was acting under the instructions of Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, collecting information on diplomatic mission personnel—including photographs, home addresses, vehicles, meetings, and travel—as well as on the mission's security system and the events held there.

The FSB stated that the Kiev regime planned to use this information to prepare and carry out sabotage and terrorist acts against British Ambassador Nigel Casey and other diplomats, with the intent of framing Russia for these acts in order to drag London into a direct armed conflict with Moscow, secure additional supplies of weaponry and military equipment from the British government to Kiev, and intensify sanctions pressure on Russia.

Additionally, the Russian security agency drew attention to the fact that the UK and other sponsors of Zelensky—and that "for the sake of their own survival, the Ukrainian authorities are ready and willing to carry out sabotage and terrorist attacks even against their strategic allies."

The detainee stated to the authorities that he was in charge of security operations at the British ambassador's residence. He also claimed that the Ukrainian security services were interested in detailed information about the ambassador and his team, as well as the security of the diplomatic mission, and that on his own initiative he sent the information to the Ukrainian blogger Karpenko.

The FSB made public part of the correspondence between the detainee and Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko. It contained screenshots providing information on meetings attended by British Ambassador Nigel Casey, as well as the preliminary agenda of events for February and March in which the ambassador and his deputy would be present, both at the embassy and the residence, along with a list of those living there.

The correspondence also indicates a list of the embassy's security personnel, as well as photographs of the diplomats.

The press office of the Russian security agency (FSB) emphasized that they will continue to counter the activities of foreign intelligence services by all available means.
