The massive joint operation in Sinaloa marks the largest synthetic drug bust of the current administration.

Mexico’s National Guard, the Army and the Attorney General’s Office seized 24,000 liters of liquid methamphetamine in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, according to the press release by the Secretariat of Defense

As a result of central military intelligence work by Mexico’s Secretariat of Defense, an operation led by the National Guard—in coordination with the Mexican Army and the Attorney General’s Office—was carried out on June 19 and 20. The operation resulted in the arrest of a man identified as Jorge “N”, an alleged member of the “Pacific Cartel”, and the seizure of a property.

Inside the raided property, authorities seized 24,000 liters of liquid methamphetamine, 98,640 liters and 59,425 kilograms of precursor chemical used to produce synthetic drugs, two vehicles, magazines for long guns and ammunitions of various calibers.

The Secretariat of Defense noted that due to the magnitude of the seizure, it is considered as “the largest of it kind in the current administration and the second largest in recorded history,” with an estimated economic impact on organized crime of more than 9 billion Mexican pesos (approximately $520 million USD).

This adds to a series of blows done by the Mexican government against  organized crime, which has resulted in the seizure of nearly 420 tons of drugs, the destruction of 2,404 narco-labs, and the confiscation of 29,000 firearms.
